Fashion Show

Another shot from the fashion show, its really difficult to shoot the models as they are always in motion like humming birds. Guess, this shoot at fashion show did teach me a lot. :-) The biggest problem i faced was the time to set right exposure when the models move on a vivdly lit up stage and with different colored lights and clothings.

I did manage to get few OK shots, will share some with all of you beautiful people out there. Have fun.

@Jen: Thanks Jen, my fingers were playing with exposure dial all the time as the models moved over the stage. This was the biggest hurdle i faced in this shoot out. A good lesson though. :)

Very difficult to do. I can only suggest, shoot RAW with auto white balance so you can more easily correct the color later. Try shooting in burst mode, shoot short bursts. You will go through shots quickly but are likely to get more usable shots.

Not too shabby on this one.

You got a great expression on this model!! Nice framing and the light/exposure is still pretty dang fine under the circumstances!! ;-)

You are doing great with your shots Rahul.

As a tip, if you switch to the 'sports' mode on your D40 (assuming it has it like my D70 does), then the camera will always go for the higher shutter speed, as a big DOF is not really necessary at an event like a fashion show or gig. Set the camera to dynamic area focus, and switch between the focus points to choose what you want to focus on, or use manual focussing if the camera is having difficulty. I shoot a lot of events for my job, and it works every time. I mostly choose ISO250, or go up to ISO320 at a push, and it generally works out. Sometimes it helps to pan the camera if people are moving too quick. Best of luck at future shows.

@Richard_Irwin: Thanks Richard, and appreciate your tips. Changing to sport mode technically just increases the ISO and in turn the grains. But i shall try that. :)

You got a good shot here, despite the challenges -- what a great expression! I shoot lots of people in motion as well, and you eventually get to the point where you can anicipate a pause or lull. If you wait for it, youwill miss it :) Of course, a large 1GB or better card helps, so you can shoot like crazy. :)
